What the JERC electricity tariff (effective 1 November 2025) means for charging an e-scooter at home

Chandigarh’s domestic electricity tariff is set by the JERC five-year order (FY 2025-26 to 2029-30), effective 1 November 2025 — the first order after the CPDL privatisation. It is tiered: roughly ₹2.75/unit at the lowest slab, around ₹4.80/unit for 151–400 units, and about ₹5.40/unit above 400 units, plus a small fixed charge and an electricity duty.

What that means for a scooter

A low-speed electric scooter draws about 2 units for a full charge. Rather than quote the cheapest slab, the honest basis for running-cost maths is an all-in rate of about ₹5/unit (mid-slab energy charge plus fixed charge and duty). On that basis:

• a full charge costs roughly ₹10 (less on the lowest slab);
• spread over a ~60 km range, that’s about ₹0.17 per km;
• the same distance on petrol costs in the region of ₹150–200.

Across the Tricity

Mohali (PSPCL) is around ₹5.40/unit for the first 300 units, and Panchkula (Haryana, UHBVN) is broadly comparable. So the three cities are close on a typical bill — the ownable point is that Chandigarh’s lower slabs reward modest domestic use, not that it is dramatically cheaper than its neighbours.

What it means for a Tricity low-speed EV buyer

• A full overnight charge on a normal home socket costs about ₹10 at ~₹5/unit — no special connection needed.
• Budget on ~₹5/unit, not the lowest slab, for an honest estimate; heavy household use climbs toward ₹5.40/unit.
• At ₹0.17/km, running cost stays a small fraction of petrol wherever you plug in across the Tricity.
